Fujiya & Miyagi - Ankle Injuries

This is perhaps the coolest music video since this one.

Music video of the year

Here it goes againI’ve just been watching a spot of Video Hits, and inbetween all the ads for shit ringtones and crap pop music, I saw what I think is the best music video I’ve seen in a very long time. It’s for “Here It Goes Again” by OK Go. As well as being a great video, the song was quite good too. It’s refreshing to see some artists/directors still have a bit of imagination and can come up with something this entertaining.

Watch the video here.

Wanna be an iDJ?

Have you ever thought to yourself: “Gee, I love this playlist I’m listening to, I bet it would get the crowd pumping!”? Well now you have the opportunity to put it to the test.

There is a rising phenomenon of iPod nightclubs and dance parties happening all over the place. Basically, you rock up with your ‘Pod in pocket, take a number and wait. Numbers are drawn out of a hat and that person gets some time to spin some tunes. The appeal is that you have the same chance of being called to the DJ booth to play your fav. tunes as Sasha or Phil K would have. Also, I guess you get a nice eclectic mix of music to listen to as well.

I still don’t think I would prefer it to jumping on my Technics and playing real records, but that’s a personal choice I suppose.

Favourite iPod position

I’ve decided that there are probably a few distinct groups of iPod/iTunes users.

1. Browse through your library to find an album you want to listen to, and play it from start to finish.
2. Same as No. 1 but use shuffle.
3. Listen to favourite artists.
4. Custom playlisters.
5. Let Shuffle do its thing on your entire library.

I don’t believe group membership is mutually exclusive. That is, being a member of one group doesn’t mean you can’t pop over and visit one or more of the other groups from time to time, but I think that if you look closely at your listening habbits you will definitely be able to say “yep, more than anything else, I’m one of those people”.

Personally, I find it thoroughly entertaining to throw myself at the mercy of the Shuffle. I have music on all day at work and it’s a great way to hear all sorts of different tunes. Of course, there is the occasional need to intervene with the skip button but that’s no biggy.

What got me thinking about this was I just had the Ghostbusters theme song (by Ray Parker Jr.) come on via Shuffle. Here’s a song that I haven’t heard for ages, has great novelty value and is quite entertaining, but I wouldn’t have thought to go looking for it to listen to. Ahhh, Shuffle, you’re my friend.

What kind of iPodder are you?

Which is cooler: an iPod or a pot of beer?

Some undergrad. students in the US have taken part in a market research study and results show that this year, iPods are rated more “in” than drinking beer.

I wonder if they’ve considered drinking beer while listening to their iPod? Then they would be uber-cool.

The sound of silence

My work computer crashed on Friday. At about lunch time it decided to sabotage it’s registry and I’ve noticed this morning that all my iTunes library has disappeared. So today, I will be working in silence. Not cool at all.

Thunderball

I would like to draw your attention to a great musical group who call themselves Thunderball. The duo of Steve Raskin and Sid Barcelona are signed to ESL Music and have two full-length EP releases.

As quoted on their website:
“Thunderball expertly craft cinematic, dub-laden compositions full of intrigue, effortlessly changing tempos between D&B, breakbeat and downtempo…drawing from their love of ‘60s cinema, Brazilian beats and Afro funk rhythms, to create explosive soundscapes designed for modern spy chases and late night encounters.”

I first heard their music on the soundtrack to The Collective, one of the best MTB films ever produced.

When you get the opportunity, check out both the music and the film.
