I just read an interesting article about the popularity of blogging. A research company has predicted that the number of bloggers will begin to level out in 2007 and hover around the 100 million mark worldwide.

Apparently, if you are interested enough to start your own blog, you will have done it by 2007.

The article also mentions the fact that many people start writing a blog because they think they have something to say, but they often grow tired of it and move on. That sounds a bit like me, but I think my blog has slowed down because I have developed different priorities now.

Now it’s about keeping the house clean, walking the dog, working longer hours, spending more time commuting every week, riding my bikes, etc etc. Not to mention the fact that the only people to “read” this page are search engine spiders and spammers trying to post comments inviting me to buy cheap drugs and gamble on all manner of US sports.

Anyway, I’ll keep making the odd post here, just to humour myself. I still add photos of family evets and celebrations to the gallery, just in case people want to see them.

If I don’t get to it before next week, merry xmas everyone.

And because it’s summer, why not talk about the drought. Below is a clipping from the newspaper that looks at the drought in an interesting way. You’d expect a comment like that from a Queenslander, but not from a Victorian.

Driving to work this morning, we travelled much of the length of Bridge Road with a 30-something male cyclist who we see most mornings. The reason I keep noticing him is because he’s one of those cyclists who feels it’s not necessary for him to obay the road rules. He doesn’t stop at red lights, he doesn’t indicate when he’s going to turn, etc etc. Cyclists like him really get on my nerves.

How can we (cyclists) hope to have a fair go on the roads and be respected by other motorists and not be killed because other road users are actually aware of us and keep their eyes open, if motorists see cyclists as arrogant pricks who think they are above the law.

I bet most car drivers would like to run red lights if there are no cars coming in the other direction, but they don’t. Pull you head in, bikers, and do the right thing.

In a related story, an article in the paper this morning: If you’re male and you ride, beware. Maybe our law-breaking cyclist should have a read.

So as a result, unfortunately, Australians are left to spend their internet time waiting on some of the slowest “broadband” connections in the developed world.
