Music video of the year

Here it goes againI’ve just been watching a spot of Video Hits, and inbetween all the ads for shit ringtones and crap pop music, I saw what I think is the best music video I’ve seen in a very long time. It’s for “Here It Goes Again” by OK Go. As well as being a great video, the song was quite good too. It’s refreshing to see some artists/directors still have a bit of imagination and can come up with something this entertaining.

Watch the video here.

Winding down

I am now in the closing minutes of my third-last day at my “old job”, as it shall be know from now on. Things are certainly winding down. I have been evicted from my office and relocated into the open plan area. The hand over is nearly complete. I have just deleted my iTunes directory from my computer.

It’s kind of sad, I’ve been working here for more than three years, my first job out of Uni. I have made some wonderful friends who have tought my lots and lots. I will miss the team here. I reckon three years is a good effort, considering I was employed as a temp on a “15 hours a week for 8 weeks” assignment.

Despite being a touch sad about leaving, I’m very much looking forward to my new job. The idea of new challenges, new opportunites, new people is all very exciting for me. I know I’m being cliche, but as they say in the classics: “One door closes and another door opens”.

I will post updates on how the “new job” is in the near future.

Smash Repairs

At least the won’t have to pay much for towing!

Where’s the house gone?

According to Google Maps, our house doesn’t exist! Does that mean we don’t have to pay rates?

Obsessed with Jen

I think the Herald Sun has become obsessed with former Miss Universe Jen Hawkins (not that there’s anything wrong with that, mind you). The National news section of their website this morning had no less than three stories/photos of her. I find it amusing that she is the most important national news that the Herald Sun can report on.

Free internet

I’m one of those people who thinks having web access at home is essential and having not had it since moving in a few weeks ago, it’s amazing how much you miss it. Not miss it in the way an addict misses their particular vise, but more so in a way that makes you realise how much it’s actually a part of our lives these days. I felt quite old fashioned last week when I was filling in the Census form and had to say we didn’t have internet access at home.

So on Tuesday I signed up for a new ADSL2+ plan from TPG. Today I read in the paper that Google is about to start providing their entire town with free Wi-Fi internet access. Why doesn’t somebody do that for us poor Aussies? I draw your attention to two of my earlier posts: Telstra ditches broadband plans and Google is taking over the world.

Stuck bird

There is a seagull trapped in the courtyard outside my office window. He can’t seem to find his way out over the 4 metre high walls. The poor bugger keeps flying into the windows. He doesn’t appear to be injured, he just can’t get enough lift when flapping his wings.

I sometimes think it would be fun to be a bird, because flying would be cool. Now I wonder what’s the point of being able to fly if you can get stuck somewhere so easily.

Can you tell I don’t have a lot of work to do?

What water restrictions?

Since moving into the new house and setting up the nice, new, low-line entertainment unit recently purchased from Dare Gallery, Jane and I have decided that the 51cm CRT TV isn’t quite big enough to take centre stage amongst the surround speakers - which, after purchasing them 4 years ago, I’m finally going to be able to set up properly, without having to worry about parents and landlord objections about ceiling mounts or too much noise when watching The Matrix.

So, with no money in the bank and lots of wild ideas bouncning around my head, I have started doing some reading on the pros and cons of flat panel display units. What’s the difference between LCD and Plasma? Which is better? Which will last longer? Which gives the best picture? How much to spend? How big to go? The mind boggles.

In my research I came accross a company that is selling fully waterproof LCD TVs for use in wet environments including “spas, poolside, or even the shower”. This begs the question: Is anyone really surprised that we aren’t going to be allowed to wash our cars this summer because too many people are watching Mel and Kochie on Sunrise while in the shower, instead of washing under their armpits?

Funny stick men

I don’t know who drew these, but they made me laugh.

Telstra ditches broadband plans

You gotta love big company mentality. This week Telstra decided it isn’t going to go forward with plans to build a national high-speed internet network. It is reported that discussions held between Telstra and the ACCC regarding the wholesale of access to the network to other parties has caused considerable unrest for Telstra. So as a result, unfortunately, Australians are left to spend their internet time waiting on some of the slowest “broadband” connections in the developed world.

Despite this lack of enthusiasm for providing its customers with the best technology possible, Telstra is still prepared to charge me $300 to get a phone connected at my new house. These are crazy times we live in.
